Use Cases for Permissioned Blockchain Platforms - Swetha Repakula & Jay Guo, IBM
In this talk, Jay and Swetha will demonstrate how certain blockchain use cases can benefit from a permissioned platform, such as Hyperledger Fabric, versus public ones. For example, voting is an integral part of many governments and presents itself as a unique use case. The system can benefit from the security ensured with blockchain technologies and increased accessibility from using Distributed Apps (DApps). In the process they will show how developers familiar with Ethereum can now easily develop on Hyperledger Fabric using Contract-Oriented Languages e.g. Solidity, leverage tools like Web3, Truffle, & Remix, as well as migrate their DApps with minimal effort.

Building a Marketplace with a Censorship and Surveillance-Free Internet - Brian J. Fox, Orchid Protocol
The internet is at risk. Internet access for over 75% of the world is restricted or censored and globally, ISPs harvest and sell users’ data. Orchid is an open source project to build a surveillance-free, decentralized network layer on top of the existing internet, allowing users to bypass restrictive firewalls, access information, and communicate freely. In addition, the Orchid protocol enables a marketplace, where members of the network can buy and sell resources, such as bandwidth, storage, and compute cycles.

Orchid’s founders are an established group of open source technologists, entrepreneurs, and blockchain experts that have been working in stealth since mid-2017 to bring the technology to life.

This session introduces the project and explains why the premise of a surveillance-free and censorship-free internet is increasingly at risk worldwide.

Blockchain for Dummies Using the Open Service Broker API - Jonathan Berkhahn & Swetha Repakula, IBM
Are you a developer of a cloud native application and unfamiliar with blockchain? Come learn how to use an Open Service Broker API deployed service instance to connect your app with a blockchain network without having understand the specific underpinnings of a blockchain platform. Jonatha and Swetha will show an OSB broker that will automatically deploy network nodes and smart contracts allowing app developers to focus solely on their applications.

The Open Service Broker API is an open standard for deployment and management of third-party services in relation to applications hosted on cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes and Cloud Foundry.

Flowchain - A Hybrid Blockchain for the IoT and Tokenized Hardware - Jollen Chen, Flowchain.co
The IoT blockchain has become an emerging technology in the IT industry. Despite a myriad of studies on the IoT blockchain, it is still a challenge that how an IoT blockchain system is investigated to benefit the IoT and hardware industry. In this presentation, Jollen will show a hybrid blockchain technology based on Flowchain and Hyperledger Fabric for both the IoT and hardware industry to utilize the "tokenized hardware" scheme to facilitate such technical challenges. Tokenized hardware can gain viable benefits such as security, privacy, and decentralization by associating cryptocurrency tokens to hardware devices.
